Frequently-asked questions

Q1. Is swimming required for diving?

A. Yes. To sign up for a certification course, you need to know how to swim. Standards state that a student should be able to swim a distance of 200 mtrs and float in deep water for 10 minutes.

Q2. What can non-swimmers do?

A. Non-swimmers can sign up for experience programs where a dive professional teaches you a few basic skills like breathing comfortably underwater, communicating underwater, equalising pressure in the ears etc. This dive can be done from the shore as well as off a boat.

Q3. Whats the best season to dive in the Andamans?

A. Diving can typically be done year round in the Andamans if you just want to do an experience dive or beginner courses. To dive the deep highlight sights of Havelock and Neil, the best time is between September to mid November and March until June end.

Q4. How long does OWC plus AA together take?

A. Both courses together can be completed in 5 days minimum, however it is always advisable to have a couple of buffer days in case of weather, learning difficulties and to make sure things are not hurried.

Q5. Can diving be risky?

A. SCUBA Diving, like any other adventure sport can be risky but risks can be reduced through proper training, following instructions, checks of instruments and gauges throughout the dive and maintenance of equipment and most of all by selecting to dive with a reputed dive outfit.

Q6. Can I do it travelling solo or do I need to find a group?

A. Yes absolutely! You will make new friends during your course who can then go on to be diving buddies in future.

Q7. Is it overweight friendly?

A. It is EVERYONE friendly! Your weight doesn't really matter as long as you are medically fit to dive.
